New Roof from ARK Construction

Spring is the perfect time of year to do your outdoor home remodeling, especially anything up high.  With the icy and slippery months behind us, the contractors at ARK Construction compiled this list of common roofing materials and the benefits and drawbacks of each to help you pick the right new roof this Spring.

1.     Asphalt Shingle Roof.  By far the most popular roofing material, asphalt shingles are cheap, easy to install, and durable.  However, asphalt shingles aren’t great insulators and have a shorter lifespan than most roofing material.
2.     Wood Shingle Roof.  Wood shingles come in a variety of styles and types of wood.  Although highly durable and aesthetically pleasing, wood shingles are also highly flammable, so if you’re in an area that’s high risk for forest fires, we don’t recommend this type of roof.
3.     Clay Shingle Roof or Concrete Shingle Roof.  On the flip side of wood, clay and concrete tiles are non flammable, and highly durable.  They can come in a variety of styles and colors and also reflect the sun’s rays.  The most protective roofing material, tiles are also the heaviest, and may require additional framing to support the added weight to your roof. Make sure you check with your house’s contractor as well as a roofing contractor before deciding on clay or concrete tiles.
4.     Metal Roof.  Metal roofs are very popular with new homes and businesses.  They reflect the sun’s heat, making them ideal for bright locations.  They also often last twice as long as wood or asphalt.  A bit on the pricey side, we believe the longevity factor more than makes up for the added cost.

If your roof is over 20 years old, chances are it might be time for a change.

ARK Construction specializes in shingle roof, pvc roof, and metal roof installation and roof repair.  We even offer emergency roof repair for people in need of a quick fix.
